PETALING JAYA: A student of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu drowned while trying to save a friend at Lata Ulu Kasar in Setiu, Terengganu, today.
Setiu police chief Zain Dris said Suraya Hassan, 22, from Batu Pahat, Johor, was at the picnic spot with seven other university friends, Bernama reported.
He said Suraya’s friend Nur Najwa Farina, 25, noticed that another friend, identified only as Adilah, was having difficulty in the water. “They both tried to rescue Adilah, but Suraya was caught in the currents and drowned. Najwa also nearly drowned but was rescued,” he said.
