Aminuddin said Mubarak Dohak no longer held any authority or function as the Undang of Sungai Ujong as he had been lawfully removed from his post effective May 13 last year for contravening 33 customary laws, with his removal affirmed by the state’s Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) last Friday.
He added that Mubarak’s actions were inconsistent with Articles 10 to 12 of Negeri Sembilan’s constitution, reported Bernama.
“The DKU functions as an advisory body on matters relating to Malay customs and traditions, including issues concerning the appointment and removal of the four Undang Luak, as provided for under Article 16 of the state constitution.
“This includes matters pertaining to the dismissal of an Undang Luak from holding his customary title in accordance with the customs of his luak,” he said.
In Negeri Sembilan, the four Undangs represent the main traditional districts or luak: Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol, and Rembau.
The four Undangs are traditional territorial chiefs who play a central role in electing the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and advising on customary law under the state’s adat perpatih.
Mubarak announced the removal of Tuanku Muhriz in a press conference at Balai Sungai Ujong in Seremban yesterday.
