PETALING JAYA:
Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has suspended the airing of animated series “Cleopatra in Space” following complaints over the alleged inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) elements.

The national broadcaster said it had launched an internal review of the series, which was last aired on TV2 on April 18 and 19 at 9am.

“RTM has stopped broadcasting the series in its entirety,” it said in a statement today.

It also said it remained committed to ensuring that all programmes broadcast are of high quality, safe, and in line with societal sensitivities, religious values, and local cultural norms.

PAS ulama chief Ahmad Yahaya criticised RTM earlier today, saying this was the second time the broadcaster had aired a cartoon with alleged LGBT elements.

RTM stopped broadcasting “Santiago of the Seas” last year following complaints of indirect LGBT elements in the animated show.
