PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man after a chase which ended in a three-vehicle crash at Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement chief Zamzuri Isa said the accident, which was captured in a viral video on social media, occurred at about 6.15pm yesterday at Jalan Ampang near Gleneagles Hospital.

“The incident began when a 31-year-old man driving a white Perodua Bezza failed to stop when instructed by patrol officers.

“He fled, triggering a chase from the Pandan Indah area to the location of the incident,” he said in a statement today.

Zamzuri said the suspect was believed to have lost control of his vehicle at Jalan Ampang, where he crashed into two cars stopped at a traffic light – a Perodua Aruz driven by a 42-year-old woman and another Perodua Bezza driven by a 35-year-old man.

Checks found 4.7g of Yaba pills in the man’s possession while a urine test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Zamzuri said the suspect was taken to the Ampang police headquarters for further action. Police have applied for the suspect’s remand at the Ampang magistrates’ court.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants, Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, and Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and use.
