This comes after Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said on April 15 that he had yet to receive a letter notifying him of the Larut MP’s resignation.
“Hamzah was sacked three months ago. He should have resigned as opposition leader as soon as he was sacked.
“He assumed the opposition leader’s post in his capacity as a Bersatu MP and representative of the Perikatan Nasional opposition bloc.
“Now that he is no longer a party member, he should not continue to ‘perch’ in the post if he has any sense of pride or shame,” Tun Faisal said in a Facebook post today.
On April 12, PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar confirmed that Hamzah was no longer the opposition leader and said he had instructed PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan to send an official letter informing the speaker of the vacancy.
Tun Faisal said it was inappropriate for Hamzah, now an independent MP, to continue holding a post that should be filled by an MP with a clear mandate from PN, the largest coalition in the opposition bloc.
“His continued presence in the opposition leader’s post is not only politically inappropriate but also raises serious questions about his morals and integrity.
“Enough of this obsession with position and rank, and all the perks that come with the opposition leader’s post,” he said.
