KUALA LUMPUR:
The magistrates’ court here today freed singer Wee Meng Chee, also known as Namewee, from two drug charges.

Last month, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) rejected his initial representation to drop the charges under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act 1952 and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni granted the acquittal after being informed that the AGC had accepted Wee’s second bid to drop the charges.

In January, Wee pleaded not guilty to possessing 0.78g of sildenafil and an amended charge of possessing 1.57g of methamphetamine at a room in Banyan Tree Hotel, Jalan Conlay, on Oct 22, 2025.

Sildenafil is a controlled substance commonly found in erectile dysfunction medication.

Wee was arrested at the hotel shortly after he reported the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin.

He was represented by lawyer Fadhli Sutris while deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal appeared for the prosecution.
