Teacher held over alleged sexual misconduct in Besut

PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a 42-year-old teacher to assist in an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct involving two students in Besut.

The suspect, who teaches at a secondary school in the district, was detained at his family home in Besut at about 3.25pm today, reported Harian Metro.

Police arrested the teacher after two students lodged reports against him.

Besut police chief Rozaime Rahim said the teacher is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

In a separate development, the Terengganu education department said investigations are ongoing into a teacher at a school in Setiu accused of sexual misconduct.

The department said the education ministry’s integrity unit was carrying out the investigation.
