Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the girl had gone to her room at her house in Banda Hilir before harming herself with a knife around 10.33pm, Berita Harian reported.
Dzulkhairi said the stepmother, 49, claimed the girl has been stressed lately and was allegedly under the influence of a drug-laced “mushroom-flavoured” vape before the incident.
“The girl was rushed to Melaka Hospital for treatment and is said to be in stable condition,” he said.
Investigations found that the teen started vaping after getting to know her boyfriend, a Form 4 student, in February.
Dzulkhairi said the stepmother had confiscated a vape before but the girl’s boyfriend had supplied her with more.
“Further investigations are being held and will involve, among others, the stepmother and other occupants of the house, aged 14 to 17.”
The case is being probed for child neglect.
