Hussin, formerly of Bersatu, said the final decision would only be made after assessing the political situation, which he described as still unstable, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“I am confident in my personal strength and track record of serving the people. I do not want to ride on my friends’ parties. I want a party to ride on (my strengths).
“The current political landscape has shown that no party can claim victory solely on its brand name anymore,” he was quoted as saying at an event in Bukit Gantang, Perak.
He also revealed plans to field his own preferred candidates in the three state seats under the Bukit Gantang parliamentary constituency in the polls.
The seats are Trong, Changkat Jering and Kuala Sepetang, which he described as strategic constituencies in determining local political strength.
“This time, I want to have my own team. My people must be present in all three state constituencies,” he said.
Hussin is among the Bersatu MPs who decided to back Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration in late 2023.
The others are Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang MP), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang MP), Zahari Kechik (Jeli MP), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar MP), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan MP).
Abdul Rashid Asari, state assemblyman for Selat Klang, Selangor, also declared his support for menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
All seven of them ceased to be members of Bersatu effective May 31, 2024, after failing to respond to a notice to confirm their loyalty to the party.
