PETALING JAYA:
The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, today expressed hope that menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah would be allowed to continue leading the state government uninterrupted until the end of the 15th state assembly term.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said administrative stability was essential to ensure that development plans could be carried out smoothly for the benefit of the people and the state, Sinar Harian reported.

“I wish to remind all honourable assemblymen that this government is my government,” he said in a royal address read out by Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail at the opening of the fourth session of the 15th Perlis state assembly today.

“I hope the menteri besar will be given the space to continue leading until the end of the 15th state assembly term without any interruptions that would derail all the plans that have been drawn up.”

In his royal address, the Perlis ruler also urged assemblymen to set aside their differences and egos, and to prioritise the interests of the people and the state.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin called for continued cooperation with the menteri besar to ensure smooth administration and the effective implementation of state policies.

“Political stability is a very important criterion that will affect investor confidence in this state,” he added.

The Perlis ruler also reminded assemblymen that the state assembly should serve as a platform for constructive ideas to advance the state, rather than an arena for conflict.

“Debate and argue with wisdom, without being swayed by emotion. Always remember that the younger generation is watching your every move,” he said.

The ruler’s remarks come amid reports that six PAS assemblymen are expected to table a motion of no confidence against Abu Bakar during the three-day sitting, which runs until Friday.

Abu Bakar said he would dissolve the assembly if such a motion is tabled.
