CLARK: SEA Games organising committee (PHISGOC) have agreed to reinstate the ribbon event gold medal to Malaysian rhythmic gymnast Izzah Amzan after studying the technical regulations.

Malaysia’s chef de mission Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said the medal would be added back to the overall tally.

“They have agreed with a clause in the SEA Games rule book and will reinstate it,” he said today.

Izzah and teammate Koi Sie Yan registered an identical score of 15.200 points in the ribbon apparatus on Dec 7.

The jury, however, initially declared Sie Yan the winner based on the level of difficulty in her routine.

Competition technical officials later named the two joint winners following a protest by the Malaysian camp.

PHISGOC then withdrew the gold from Izzah the next day based on the tie-break procedure under International Gymnastics Federation rules.

Malaysia filed an official complaint, which led to the latest decision by PHISGOC.

Izzah also won gold in ball and silver in hoop.
