Meet Maaya Parvathy, a six-month-old Miniature Schnauzer, whose “pawrents” Nahvin Chinaya and Michele Maxine David love her to bits.

Maaya is loving and smart and has fast become her daddy’s favourite. “She squeals gleefully when her daddy comes home and asks ‘Who’s the pretty girl?’ because she knows she is.”

Being a puppy still, Maaya is full of energy and curiosity about the things around her. “We have a big yard in her grandparents place in Ipoh that she loves to run in. It seems like she never gets tired.

“She’s also a bit of a busybody and follows us everywhere – she needs to know what we’re doing at all times,” Michele says.

Maaya also has a cheeky streak which she shows every so often. “Tell her not to do something and she will obediently stop. But the moment you turn your back, she’s quietly at it again,” Michele says.

When she isn’t catching forty winks, Maaya is up and about playing fetch and flinging her soft toys around the house.

“She’s obsessed with floor rugs and goes around the house collecting them. She’s also become real good at ‘collecting’ cuddles and is spoilt rotten by my husband and I, grandparents, aunties and uncles,” Michele says, adding that Maaya loves to chew on human hair, and jump to lick the faces of those she loves.

This Miniature Schnauzer is a social butterfly and can often be seen hanging out in cafes and restaurants with her “pawrents”.

“She also loves going on long car rides and for walks especially at Desa ParkCity to meet her furry friends,” Michele says.

Because she’s still so young, Maaya tends to be afraid of loud noises and is a little timid when in new surroundings. She’s especially afraid of noisy kids as well as fierce, big dogs – well, who can blame her?

A smart cookie, Maaya learnt quickly how to “sit” and “shake hands” on command. Having a treat or two in the hand helped loads. Michele says Maaya can also understand when she’s told to go to sleep.

“She’s very friendly, shy at first, but once she gets to know you, she won’t stop showing her love.

“She sleeps in our bed since she loves to cuddle. Sometimes she sleeps on our pillow and, at other times, right smack in between us – it’s warmer and cosier, I guess,” Michele says.
