OSLO:
Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son Marius Borg Hoiby, charged with raping four women and other acts of violence, is due to receive his verdict on June 15, the Oslo court said Monday.

The 29-year-old, Mette-Marit’s son from a relationship before her 2001 marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, was on trial from Feb 3 to March 19 on 40 counts that carry a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison.

Hoiby, who does not formally belong to the royal household, has denied the most serious charges, including the alleged rapes which the prosecution said took place while the women were asleep or passed out, and domestic violence against an ex-girlfriend.

The prosecution has called for Hoiby to serve a prison sentence of seven years and seven months.

The defence has meanwhile called for him to be acquitted of the rapes and said he should serve an 18-month sentence for the offences to which he has pleaded guilty, including several physical assaults, transporting drugs and issuing threats.

The Oslo court said Monday the verdict was expected on June 15 at 8:30 am (0630 GMT).
