In a statement today, Johor Council of Royal Court president Abdul Rahim Ramli said Sultan Ibrahim agreed to pardon Kamal Hisham Jaafar “unconditionally” after the lawyer issued an apology.
The statement was posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s Facebook account.
Kamal, who once served the sultan, had claimed in 2012 that he had received death threats from a member of a royal family.
Three years later, he was charged with 17 counts of criminal breach of trust under the Companies Act 1965 after returning to Malaysia.
He was arrested in Singapore on Sept 2, 2015, almost two-and-a-half years after he fled to Dubai.
Rahim said Sultan Ibrahim pardoned Kamal following the advice and concurrence of the Council of the Royal Court and in consideration of the holy month of Ramadan.
“The Sultan has graciously and with utmost sincerity accepted the request and magnanimously and unconditionally pardoned Kamal,” said the statement.
He added that the ruler wished Kamal all the best in his future endeavours.
