PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia’s men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia crashed out of the Li-Ning China Masters 2024 in the first round today after going down to India’s Lakshya Sen in three games.

Zii Jia lost 14-21, 21-13, 13-21 to the Indian shuttler in a match that lasted 57 minutes.

Today’s victory means Sen has won four of the six matches played against Zii Jia so far. The Malaysian last beat Sen in their bronze medal match in the Paris Olympics last August.

Zii Jia would have confirmed his slot for the World Tour Finals (WTF) in Hangzhou, China next month had he made it to the quarter-finals at the China Masters.

He is currently ranked sixth in the WTF rankings. With only the top eight players eligible to play in the WTF, his fate is now in the hands of other contenders in the China Masters.

During the recently-concluded Kumamoto Masters in Japan, Zii Jia crashed out at the quarter-final round after losing to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.
