KUALA LUMPUR:
DAP MP Tony Pua has again asked the government to clarify his role in the investigation over documents allegedly leaked by former PetroSaudi International (PSI) executive Xavier Andre Justo and Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.

The Petaling Jaya Utara lawmaker demanded that Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi state clearly whether he was a witness or a suspect in the police probe.

“Last year, when I was called to Bukit Aman police headquarters, I was told that I was a witness.

“Now, they can’t even give me a proper answer. Am I a suspect or a witness now?

“The home minister must respond. If I am a suspect since September last year, why has there been no further action?”

Pua was speaking during a press conference at the Parliament lobby here today, in response to Zahid’s written reply in which the minister said details on the case could not be revealed as it fell under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which covered activities “detrimental to parliamentary democracy”.

“Be specific. If I have done wrong, say I have done wrong. There is no reason to punish me if I’m just a witness,” he said in reference to the travel ban imposed on him.

On Tuesday, Pua had revealed that he was questioned twice by police in September last year as a witness and not a suspect.

He also pointed out that after an affidavit was filed to challenge his 2015 travel ban, there had been “zero” follow-up since.

“Isn’t this a clear-cut abuse of the process to have me barred from travelling?” he wrote on Facebook, referring to the Immigration Department.

He was also quoted as saying that the then Immigration director-general Mustafa Ibrahim had in his affidavit to the High Court claimed the travelling ban was imposed on Pua as he was being investigated for “activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy”.
