Former KL police chief Henry Chin dies after stroke

Family by his side in hospital, body to be taken back to Sabah tomorrow.

Former Kuala Lumpur police chief Henry Chin Poy Wu died in hospital here this morning, two days after suffering a stroke.

His daughter Melissa, 31, said he had been in a coma for two nights, Star Online reported.

Chin, who lives in Kota Kinabalu with his family, was here to attend a meeting on Friday and was admitted to the University of Malaya Medical Centre after suffering a stroke.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Cheng Hua Chien, 72, and their children Alex and Melissa. They were by his side when he died. They will return to Sabah with his body tomorrow afternoon.

Chin had served 38 years in the police force before retiring in 1993. He had been a member of the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation as well as the Royal Commission of Inquiry into illegal immigrants in Sabah.

He was also a member of the Universiti Malaysia Sabah board of directors.
