PETALING JAYA:
There is no truth to the “news” story that is being widely shared online claiming that Dr Mahathir Mohamad has passed away.

The fake news story that went viral is said to be from a website “telegraph-tv.co.uk“. It was titled “BREAKING: Former Malaysia Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad Dies At 91” and datelined Sunday Nov 13, 2016.

Many Malaysians were able to quickly figure out that the site was fake seeing that it looked like a new website with only a few articles on display, one of which was about the “death” of former Thailand prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Aside from the site’s false appearance, most on social media were quickly able to share comments confirming that the former prime minister was alive and well, having made an appearance at a forum in Shah Alam on Sunday night.

His speech at the forum held in Bukit Jelutong was widely reported by local media.
