MCA chairman Tan Teik Cheng had said that Chow’s statement on the project was a big slap to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Tan was reported as saying in today’s China Press that Chow had said there was no Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the tunnel and yet Lim had said there was.
He said Chow’s remark was a slap to Lim’s face as the chief minister had said that the EIA had been sent for approval.
Chow said Tan had failed to understand the issue and had further confused the public.
“So for the benefit of Tan, I will repeat myself. Tunnel, no EIA yet as feasibility study and detailed design works are ongoing.
“Three main roads projects’ EIA was already obtained last November. I hope Tan can understand,” Chow said.
Tan was commenting on a statement by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar that the authorities had not received any EIA study on the undersea tunnel component.
Chow said he and Lim were on the same page where the undersea tunnel project was concerned.
“Tan should slap himself hard for confusing himself and confusing the public with what we have said.
“It is a simple statement from us, yet MCA and Gerakan had stooped very low to get some space in their media to attack the Penang government,” Chow told reporters in Komtar.
When contacted, Tan told FMT he would respond to Chow’s comments later.
