Police detained a married couple to facilitate investigations into a case involving a three-year-old boy who died of suspected abuse at a hospital in Ampang on Thursday.

Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the 31-year-old man and his 20-year-old wife were detained at the Kajang Hospital about 11am today.

“The man was arrested while visiting his wife who had just given birth.

“Earlier today, the wife gave birth to a baby boy at a homestay in Hulu Langat, but had to be admitted to the Kajang Hospital for further treatment.

“The couple will be remanded tomorrow while their newborn baby will be handed over to the Social Welfare Department,” he said in a statement here today.

The media previously reported that the boy was brought in unconscious by the suspects to the Ampang Hospital’s emergency department at noon on Thursday.

The couple then rushed off soon after.

A specialist at the hospital later confirmed the death of the boy and lodged a police report after finding wounds and bruises in the boy’s face and body.
