
The squad was reported to have taken couples it caught for close proximity (khalwat) to the cemetery for them to undergo a religious sermon.
Haniza said if the squad was not licensed, it had no right under the law to take action or mete out punishment to members of the public.
“They have no right to take action against the public. It is not their job.
“When talking about a person’s morals, we need to have more self-checking and self-regulation.
“We have rights and we also have to look after the rights of others,” she said after closing the 13th PKR women’s wing congress.
Earlier, outgoing PKR women’s leader Zuraida Kamaruddin said if it was true that such a squad was operating, it would not be legitimate.
“Even if they are doing something good, they have to follow the law and do it the right way.
“This country has rules and everything has to be done harmoniously. If you want to do good follow the right way,” she added.
Haniza will serve as the party’s women’s chief for the 2018-2021 term. She beat Fuziah Salleh for the post.
Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi was announced as the new PKR Wanita deputy president and Faizah Ariffin, Sangeetha Jayakumar and Wasanthee Sinnasamy as the PKR Wanita vice-presidents.
