PETALING JAYA:
Parents earning below RM3,000 a month will receive RM100 for each of their school-going children to reduce expenses for the new school session next month, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said in a statement.

He said children from Year 1 to Form 5, from the lower-income group, were eligible for the aid.

“The main purpose of the assistance is to ease the burden of schooling expenses borne by parents at the beginning of the year,” he added.

Lim said RM328 million has been channelled to the education ministry for this purpose.

He said the government is committed to providing educational opportunities to all students.

Schools reopen in all states on Jan 2.
