Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is allocating RM20 million to operate the free GO-KL bus service to boost the mobility of city residents.

It is extending its routes and putting more buses on the road for the convenience of the people.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, in tabling DBKL’s Budget 2019, said RM692.01 million has been allocated for the management and development of roads and drainage in the city.

A total of RM800,000 has been allocated for various assistance to the homeless, Bernama reported.

To meet the needs of the low-income residents, DBKL is providing RM262.17 million to manage more than 73,000 units of houses in 33 people’s housing projects and 32 public housing schemes in KL.

From the total, RM142 million was provided to repair and paint housing units, electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance of lifts and cleaning contracts.

DBKL is allocating a totalling of RM2.896 billion under Budget 2019 to cater to the 1.79 million city folks.

Hisham said the budget allocated RM1.694 billion(58.5%) as operating expenditure and RM1.202 billion (41.5%) for development.

According to him, Budget 2019 sees a 3.7% fall of RM65.5 million in operating allocation compared with RM1.759 billion for last year.

The development allocation has gone up 4.9% (RM56.04 million) to RM1.146 billion for 2018.

Hisham said the estimated revenue in 2019 is expected to fall to RM2.465 billion compared with RM2.667 billion in 2018 — a fall of 7.5%.

“Assessment collection is expected to reach RM1.029 billion, which will be the main revenue earner for DBKL, contributing 49% of the entire DBKL earnings.

“DBKL is also not proposing to raise assessment rates for properties in KL and it will also maintain the 20% incentive for assessments from disabled people,” he said.
