Malaysia Airlines allows unlimited booking changes due to Covid-19

The change in ticket policy comes amid the Covid-19 outbreak which is expected to cause heavy losses to the tourism industry.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines has announced a change in its ticket change policy in view of Covid-19, offering customers unlimited changes for new and existing bookings at no charge.

The policy change is effective immediately and passengers will be able to change the dates of their flights and/or destinations. Differences in the flight fare for different destinations will apply.

“The policy applies to tickets issued on and before March 31, 2020. All rebookings must be made on or before May 31, 2020. Rebooked return travel must be completed by Dec 31, 2020,” it said in a statement.

Rebooking can be done through the carrier’s ticket office, its GlobalContact Centre at 1-300-88-3000 (in Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia), or through the airline’s appointed agents.

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents had said the tourism industry may suffer an estimated RM150 million in losses during the upcoming school holidays due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

It also said the tourism industry may see a potential RM100 million loss in outbound travel during the two-week May school holidays, as people typically travel further to more expensive destinations such as Europe during this period.
