Teresa urges MKN to review 2-in-a-car rule

She says the ruling makes life difficult for certain people, such as couples with young children.

Teresa Kok says the ruling has caused roads in the Klang Valley to become more congested.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) has urged the National Security Council (MKN) to review the ruling that only two people can be in a car at any one time in states under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

She said this ruling was unreasonable and made it difficult for people to travel, particularly couples with young children.

“They can’t leave their kids at home when they go out to buy food. Besides that, how about sick people who have to be taken to the hospital?

“How about employers who have to send their workers to the workplace?

“This has caused the roads in the Klang Valley to become more congested. So I urge MKN to review and loosen this restriction for states under CMCO,” she said while debating on Budget 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Earlier today, two health experts had dismissed the idea of allowing more than two people in a car, saying it would undermine efforts to check the spread of Covid-19 through the partial lockdown.

Former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye and Malaysian Medical Association president Dr Subramaniam Muniandy told FMT they believed the ruling was appropriate considering the current rates of transmission.

Lee, Kok’s colleague in Pakatan Harapan, urged those seeking a relaxation of the rule to be patient, saying it was meant to reduce the number of people going outside.
