Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said police had suggested the setting up of the task force to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

“There were two post-mortems conducted against the deceased, one here and another one in the Netherlands.

“Because of the conflicting reports, we need a task force to review them,” he said, when asked about the update on Smit’s murder case.

Huzir said police would take further action after the task force came out with their results.

Smit was found dead on Dec 7, 2017 at CapSquare Residence after falling from a 20th floor condominium unit owned by American couple Alex Johnson and Luna Almazkyzy.

Two doctors have conducted the post-mortem against Smit – Dr Zunaizah Hilmi from Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Dutch pathologist Dr Frank van der Goot.

The High Court had in November last year instructed police to investigate Smit’s death as murder, after ruling that the model’s death was caused by “persons known or unknown”.

Smit’s father, Marcel, previously said the family had not heard from police since the High Court decision, adding that her “case appears to be buried and it looks like the Malaysians want us to forget”.

Her family also filed a lawsuit against the police and the government last month, for allegedly failing to carry out their statutory duties and negligence in the investigation into Smit’s death.
