Saifuddin, Loke, Dzulkefly to join emergency committee

However, PH maintains that it has not changed its stand that Muhyiddin Yassin's reasons for having the emergency declared are unacceptable.

Saifuddin Nasution, Loke Siew Fook and Dzulkefly Ahmad will represent the opposition in the independent committee.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR’s Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, DAP’s Loke Siew Fook and Amanah’s Dzulkefly Ahmad are the three MPs who will represent the opposition in the bipartisan independent committee for the emergency.

In a statement, the Pakatan Harapan secretariat council said the three names have been submitted to de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

However, it maintained that the opposition had not changed its stand that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s reasons for an emergency were unacceptable.

“We, and the majority of MPs, are also firm in our stand that this emergency should end and that Parliament should convene immediately,” it said.

The independent committee will consist of government and opposition MPs, as well as health officials, to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the Covid-19 situation and when the emergency should end.

Previously, Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar had urged Pakatan Harapan and the opposition to boycott the committee to send a strong message that there was no need for an emergency to be declared.
