
In a statement, the Pakatan Harapan secretariat council said the three names have been submitted to de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.
However, it maintained that the opposition had not changed its stand that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s reasons for an emergency were unacceptable.
“We, and the majority of MPs, are also firm in our stand that this emergency should end and that Parliament should convene immediately,” it said.
The independent committee will consist of government and opposition MPs, as well as health officials, to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the Covid-19 situation and when the emergency should end.
Previously, Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar had urged Pakatan Harapan and the opposition to boycott the committee to send a strong message that there was no need for an emergency to be declared.
