No political bias in MUDA’s rejection, says minister’s aide

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir urges Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to focus instead on fulfilling requirements to get the party registered.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s failure to get a court decision against the Registrar of Societies shows there was no political interference, says a minister’s aide.
PETALING JAYA:
There was no political interference in the rejection of MUDA’s registration, an aide to home minister Hamzah Zainudin has insisted.

Hamzah’s political secretary, Sayed Amir Muzzakkir, said the High Court decison today, which rejected a bid by MUDA to initiate a judicial review of the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) decision not to register the party, was proof that there had been no political bias.

Judge Mariana Yahya ruled that the party, led by former minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, should have first filed an appeal to Hamzah, whose ministry oversees the RoS.

“It’s clear and proven that there has been no political interference,” said Sayed Amir.

“The court rejected the judicial review and stressed that MUDA should undergo the registration process as outlined in the Societies Act 1966 before submitting a judicial review on its rejection by the RoS.”

On Tuesday, Hamzah said RoS had rejected MUDA’s application as its documentation was “not in order” as per Schedule One of the Societies Act 1966.

Syed Saddiq had previously alleged that Hamzah had “enticed” him to support Perikatan Nasional if he wanted MUDA’s registration to be approved, claiming that the conversation took place at the Dewan Rakyat late last year.

Sayed Amir called on the former youth and sports minister to “stop playing politics” by blaming Hamzah for the failed registration bid.

“If YB Syed Saddiq is sincere, he should focus on fulfilling the necessary processes in the registration procedure and focus on the RoS request that improvements be made in MUDA’s constitution which contains various problems which, if not organised, is unclear and confusing.”
