2,364 Covid-19 cases, 10 deaths

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 2,364 Covid-19 cases and 10 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 3,320 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 270,166.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 298,315.

There are 27,028 active cases, with 190 patients being treated in intensive care and 99 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 10 deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,121.

The new cases today involved 2,363 local infections and one imported case. Local cases comprised 1,455 Malaysians and 908 foreigners.

Selangor detected the highest number of infections with 862.

This was followed by Johor (314), Perak (305), Sarawak (255), Sabah (157), Penang (155), Kuala Lumpur (117), Negeri Sembilan (74), Kelantan (68), Melaka (17), Kedah (17), Terengganu (11), Pahang (8) and Putrajaya (4). Perlis and Labuan did not report any cases.

There were 52 cases in prisons today, mostly involving the Tembok Tapah (29) and Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (13) clusters.

The 10 deaths involved eight Malaysians and two foreigners, between the ages of 45 to 86.

All the Malaysians had existing medical conditions, while the two foreigners were found to be Covid-19 positive only after they died and their bodies were brought to the hospital, where they were then tested for the virus.
