Chong Sin Woon says the Chinese-based party has always advocated the middle path.

For Dr Mahathir Mohamad, everyone was extreme but himself, says MCA’s Chong Sin Woon.
PETALING JAYA:
An MCA leader rubbished today a claim by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the Chinese-based party was “quite extreme” once.

Chong Sin Woon, the party’s secretary-general, said MCA was never extreme.

“We have advocated the middle path all this while,” he told FMT.

Chong went on to say that for Mahathir, everyone was extreme “but himself”.

“Let Malaysians judge for themselves.”

Mahathir had made the claim when commenting on an Umno leader’s statement on the possibility of his party working with DAP if it adopted a more moderate approach.

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman had said the Malay community still views the DAP as a Chinese-based racist party.

Earlier this evening, Mahathir told reporters that Umno has been working with MCA “which was at one time quite extreme.”
