Zaid was responding to Hadi’s Facebook post, which stated that Umno and Pakatan Harapan had no integrity regardless of whether or not they won the majority of the seats in Parliament in the upcoming general election.
Zaid, in return, said in a Facebook post: “The best example of politicians with no integrity include those who use Covid-19 as an excuse to remain in power through the proclamation of emergency.
“Other examples include those using government power to ‘persuade’ MPs to jump parties, using government funds without prior approval in Parliament, and those speaking on reforms and Islamic governance, but are not willing to make ‘structural’ or thorough changes in the country’s system, in line with the requirements of a democratic country.”
Zaid said integrity refers to values such as being sincere, open and law-abiding, not spinning facts to stay relevant in current situations.
“They are not hypocrites, they do not abuse power and others. The people who have been brought to court – where there have yet to be a final decision – are not included among those without integrity,” he said.
He said integrity and commanding the majority support in Parliament are two different concepts.
“For the PAS president and leadership we have today, integrity is only found in those who have yet to be charged, or those with no criminal cases in court.
“On the contrary, many Umno leaders today (a lot refer to this group of politicians as the ‘court cluster’) appear to have no integrity.”
Zaid also said the need for a majority is a requirement under the Federal Constitution.
“If we respect the constitution, then that is what must be done,” he said.
“Let the rakyat decide on who has majority and who has integrity. Carry out elections as soon as possible.”
