This is the fifth consecutive day that Malaysia has broken its all-time high of daily infections.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,527 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 479,666.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 558,534.
There are 76,218 active cases, with 844 patients being treated in intensive care and 430 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 98 deaths take the number of fatalities to 2,650.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today with 2,836 while Kuala Lumpur had 789 infections, making it over 3,500 cases in the Klang Valley.
This was followed by Kelantan with 907 cases, Negeri Sembilan (898), Sarawak (726), Johor (468), Kedah (468), Penang (345), Melaka (340), Perak (272), Sabah (265), Labuan (253), Pahang (216), Terengganu (189), Putrajaya (29) and Perlis (19).
There were 9,015 local cases today, involving 8,346 Malaysians and 669 foreigners, as well as five imported cases.
The deceased were all Malaysians, with the youngest aged 18 and the oldest 91. The 18-year-old had suffered from asthma.
Fifteen of the deceased did not suffer from existing medical conditions, including a 37-year-old man who died in Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu.
Other younger fatalities also include a 27-year-old man who suffered from diabetes and kidney disease and a 38-year-old man with obesity.
Eight of the deceased, mostly elderly, were brought in dead.
