PETALING JAYA:
Malaysian hackers have allegedly stolen and leaked the personal information of nearly 300,000 Israeli students, The Times of Israel reported.

A group known as DragonForce Malaysia announced that it had leaked the names, phone numbers, email and home addresses of students from AcadeMe, one of Israel’s largest recruitment networks for students and graduates, the report said.

In a screenshot of the message by the hackers, which was shared by The Times of Israel, they called the operation “#OpsBedil 2.0” and called for “hackers, human rights organisations and activists” to unite and start a campaign against Israel.

Details of some 280,000 students from 2014 to the present were leaked along with some 100,000 email addresses through the Telegram app.

Among the institutes of higher learning that AcadeMe works with include the Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Tel Aviv University, the Open University, Bar-Ilan University, the Technion, and the University of Haifa as well as many colleges.

DragonForce Malaysia said the leak was linked to Israel’s recent 11-day conflict with Hamas, the Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip.

DragonForce Malaysia also reportedly hacked into various Israeli CCTV networks, including residences and government agencies, last month.
