In a letter, Bukit Aman management department director Zaini Jass said leave was frozen to ensure all personnel were ready to be mobilised at any time for “Op Aman”.
While the letter did not mention what Op Aman involves, FMT was informed by a source that it was in preparation for the Aug 21 rally organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR).
Sources have also confirmed the authenticity of the letter.
The letter said exemptions would only be given for emergencies and welfare and other reasonable grounds subject to the approval of department heads.
“To all department directors, state police commissioners and state police chiefs, please ensure this directive is presented for full compliance by all personnel under your administration,” said Zaini in the letter.
Previously, SSR had repeated its call for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to step down, failing which they would organise another #Lawan gathering on Aug 21.
The group said Muhyiddin had failed to lead the government and stabilise the country’s political situation, adding that this had left the country struggling to emerge from the effects of the pandemic.
SSR had organised a rally earlier in July, which saw up to 1,000 youths gathering in protest against the government. That protest went on peacefully and ended in two hours, though police have summoned several individuals for taking part in it.
FMT has reached out to Bukit Aman for confirmation as to whether Op Aman is related to the Aug 21 rally.
