
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,765,016.
He said there were 21,073 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,482,800.
There are 265,274 active cases with 1,007 patients being treated in intensive care and 464 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 278 deaths take the number of fatalities to 16,942.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 3,711.
This was followed by Sabah (2,430), Sarawak (2,414), Johor (1,993), Penang (1,762), Kedah (1,585), Kelantan (1,504), Perak (899), Pahang (715), Kuala Lumpur (573), Terengganu (506), Melaka (309), Negeri Sembilan (291), Putrajaya (34), Perlis (33), and Labuan (3).
There were 18,757 local infections today, as well as five imported cases.
Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 1.02.
Sarawak recorded the highest R-nought level with 1.20, followed by Perlis (1.19), Sabah (1.11), Johor (1.10), Penang (1.10), Kelantan (1.05), Perak (1.05), Kedah (1.04), Terengganu (1.04), Pahang (1.02), Selangor (0.94), Melaka (0.91), Putrajaya (0.87), Kuala Lumpur (0.83), Negeri Sembilan (0.82) and Labuan (0).
About 98% or 18,432 cases were from Category 1 and Category 2, while 13,346 new cases, or 71.1%, involved individuals who have not been vaccinated or completed their vaccinations.
