
What is even more shocking is that the health ministry has reported 15 deaths this year among children aged up to four years. There were only three such deaths all of last year and another three this year until the end of May.
The statistics indicate that 12 children aged up to four years have died in the last three months.
There have also been 16 deaths among teenagers aged between 13 and 17. Meanwhile, nine deaths this year involved children aged nine to 12, and one other was five or six years old.
The deaths were reported until Aug 30.
There were 310,074 cases involving children for 2021, a 25-fold increase compared to the 12,620 in 2020. Fatality rate was at 0.01%.
The highest number of cases among children this year involved those aged between seven and 12 with 106,823. This was followed by children aged 13-17 (89,087 cases), up to four years (81,168), and five and six years (32,996).
