PAS wants independent panel to resolve oil royalty issue

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man says the panel should discuss three key issues - the location of the oil fields, production capacity, and the list of agreements.

PASIR MAS:
An independent committee comprising the Kelantan and federal governments should be set up to discuss three key issues related to oil royalty, says PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said the three issues were the distance and location of the oil fields from Kelantan’s coast, the production capacity, and the list of agreements made between the two parties.

The Kubang Kerian MP said once the committee had been set up, the discussions should also involve the finance ministry and the prime minister.

“I propose that an independent panel consisting of the state and federal governments be set up for us to agree first on the distance of three nautical miles from the coast, because each party has its own interpretation,” he told a press conference near here today.

Earlier, Tuan Ibrahim, who is also environment and water minister, made a working visit to check on a project to address the collapse of a riverbank here.

Asked if the oil royalty issue, which had been going on for so long, could be resolved, he said he was confident that a solution could be found.

Further, he said the Kelantan government now was no longer in the opposition.

“Now that we are together in the federal government, it will be easier to resolve issues.

“All problems in the world can be resolved.”
