3,000 flood evacuees in Selangor, more rain expected

Selangor fire and rescue services department opens 30 flood relief centres and is ready to open more if situation worsens.

Many areas in Selangor have been badly affected by floods and traffic has been brought to a standstill.
PETALING JAYA:
A total of 3,086 flood victims in Selangor have been evacuated to 30 relief centres in the districts of Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang following heavy rain from yesterday.

Selangor fire and rescue services department chief Norazam Khamis said in Klang alone, 20 centres were opened, with 2,604 evacuees taking shelter there.

He said there were 793 evacuees at the centre in SK Johan Setia while 681 evacuees were at the SK Telok Gong centre.

In Sepang and Kuala Langat, 10 centres were opened with 482 evacuees staying there currently.

In a Twitter post earlier, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Team Selangor and Selangor volunteers were being mobilised to render help to the victims in various ways.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and will open more relief centres if the need arises,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has warned residents in Selangor to brace for continued bad weather.
