PETALING JAYA:
Two government officials and two company owners have been remanded for six days to assist in an investigation into soliciting and receiving bribes for work related to road slope maintenance.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Ahmad Asyraf Mohamed Kamal at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) made the application this morning.

A source said the four male suspects, aged between 39 and 42, were arrested at the Putrajaya MACC headquarters yesterday.

The two government officials, both 39, are with an agency in Negeri Sembilan and the Kuala Lumpur headquarters.

It is understood that they are suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes from the two company owners over work related to the maintenance of slopes on federal and state roads involving an allocation of about RM300 million a year.

MACC special operations division senior director Tan Kang Sai confirmed the arrests and the case is being investigated under Section 16 (a) (A) of the MACC Act 2009.
