1,394 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 44% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 1,394 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of these, 840 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 554 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 228, followed by Perak (161) and Johor (154).

Meanwhile, 1,345 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said 44% of the 886 beds in Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were being utilised.

Usage of ICU beds in nine regions has exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kuala Lumpur (67%), Putrajaya (67%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (63%), Johor (59%), Selangor (58%), Sarawak (53%), Perak (51%), and Penang (51%).

A total of 217 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 25% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (91%), Putrajaya (83%), Kuala Lumpur (77%), Terengganu (76%), Perak (71%), Perlis (69%), Kelantan (59%), Melaka (58%), Negeri Sembilan (55%), Johor (52%) and Sarawak (51%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 44% while 61% of ICUs were in use.

Six clusters were reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 0.93.
