PAS to maintain good ties with Umno in all states, says Hadi

It was reported recently that Umno and PAS had agreed to ensure there would be no clashes between them in Selangor in GE15.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says the party will strive to continue defending Muafakat Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.
PETALING JAYA:
PAS will continue maintaining good relations with Umno, not just in Selangor but also in other states, party president Abdul Hadi Awang said.

Hadi said his party would continue to push for an alliance to avoid clashes in the coming general election (GE15).

He added that PAS would strive to continue defending Muafakat Nasional (MN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“PAS will continue to strengthen both PN and MN,” he was quoted by Astro Awani as saying.

MN, the pact formed between the two biggest Malay parties, has come under scrutiny, following PAS’ decision to back PN – the coalition led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

Umno has cut ties with Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said early this month that Umno should forget about cooperating with PAS through MN in GE15.

In the recent Johor and Melaka state elections, the two parties clashed.

However, it was recently reported that Umno and PAS would cooperate in Selangor and ensure there would be no clashes between the two parties in the state in GE15.

Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar said the division of seats at the state level had been discussed by both parties before PN was set up.

Meanwhile, when asked about the distribution of seats, Hadi said the party had a formula to avoid seat clashes in GE15.

He added that discussions on seat distribution were yet to be finalised.
