JOHOR BAHRU:
The state government has declared a state public holiday tomorrow (Sunday) to celebrate Johor winning the football Super League for the ninth time, and becoming overall winner of the Sukma games.

The announcement was made by the state secretary, Azmi Rohan, in a statement tonight.

The state football team Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) secured its Super League title with a 3-0 victory over Sabah FC tonight. JDT had also won 10 trophies in other championships this year.

Azmi said the special holiday was also to celebrate the state’s outstanding success in winning the 20th Sukma games, Johor’s first success since the biannual tournament began in 1986.

Johor’s contingent won 77 gold medals, far surpassing the target of 55 gold medals.

Azmi said the state government also wanted to give recognition to other sporting successes such as the Johor Jewels netball team winning the Sooka Netball Super League 2022.

The sepak takraw team also performed brilliantly when they won the Tun Ali Cup in August, while the rugby team won the Under-21 national rugby 7s and became the champion in the Under-19 men’s championship.
