Party communications director Khalid Samad, who announced Amanah’s candidates, said it wanted to give way to new faces.
“This does not mean those dropped did not perform well as MPs,” he said during a press conference today.
Hanipa will be replaced by former senator Aiman Athirah Sabu.
Others dropped were Hasan Bahrom (Tampin) and Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (Hulu Langat).
Besides Hanipa and the two others, the party will not be fielding Anuar Mohd Tahir to defend his Temerloh seat as he is said to be unwell. He will be replaced by Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda.
Meanwhile, Taman Templer (Selangor) assemblyman Sany Hamzan will replace Hasanuddin in Hulu Langat and Permatang Pasir (Penang) assemblyman Faiz Fadzil is set to take over Hasan’s Tampin parliamentary seat.
Those defending their seats will be party president Mohamad Sabu (Kota Raja), deputy president Salahuddin Ayub (Pulai), vice-president Mahfuz Omar (Pokok Sena), secretary-general Dr Hatta Ramli (Lumut), Dzulkefly Ahmad (Kuala Selangor) and Mujahid Yusof Rawa (Parit Buntar).
Khalid moves to Titiwangsa, former aide to stand in Shah Alam
Khalid, who is the former Shah Alam MP, will be contesting the Titiwangsa seat.
He is expected to face Barisan Nasional’s Johari Ghani and Perikatan Nasional’s Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
Khalid’s former aide, Azli Yusof, will be replacing him in Shah Alam.
To questions on the dismissal of Kedah Amanah chairman Phahrolrazi Zawawi for not complying with the party’s decisions, Mohamad said that such disciplinary action was a “normal” process in every political party.
“He can file his appeal (against the dismissal),” he added.
