Her candidacy was announced by party president, Muhyiddin Yassin tonight. “Rina Harun is our candidate in Sepang. It is confirmed,” said Muhyiddin.
Yesterday, Amanah announced that Aiman Athirah Sabu would be contesting the seat, which was won by Hanipa Maidin in 2013 and 2018.
The announcement confirms earlier reports that Rina would be moved from Titiwangsa, where she had won in 2018.
She is currently the Sepang Bersatu Wanita chief and was formerly head of Sepang Puteri Umno before she left the party for Bersatu.
Muhyiddin said that Rina was well-received by the local communities and it was proper for her to be announced as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate. “I hope everyone will work hard to ensure that Rina wins,” added Muhyiddin.
Rina urged Sepang voters to help PN to form the next government.
She said PN should be the voters’ choice, citing Muhyiddin’s role in managing the Covid-19 pandemic through the national vaccination programme and the role of information chief Azmin Ali in reopening the economy as the international trade and industry minister.
PN will formally announce its candidates tomorrow.
