PETALING JAYA: A Russian couple who climbed to the top of Merdeka 118, the world’s second tallest building, will be investigated by police for trespassing.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Yahaya Othman told Berita Harian that the couple, Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau, will be summoned to have their statements recorded.
“Both of them will be investigated for trespassing,” the Malay daily quoted Yahaya as saying.
Nikolau tweeted that she was not detained when climbing the tower, which has yet to be opened to the public.
“I’ve done something crazy and escaped imprisonment. It was a living nightmare but with a happy ending,” she wrote in her tweet.
The couple are known for their daredevil stunts, having climbed several skyscrapers all over the world.
Last night, a photo of Beerkus and Nikolau on top of the skyscraper was posted on SkyscraperCity.com.
The couple is believed to have accessed the towers’ stairs and climbed to the top before taking a picture by using a drone.
