PETALING JAYA: Johor police have denied a claim that the authorities had “paraded” two people in handcuffs and remand clothing after their alleged engagement in an indecent act.
Seri Alam police chief Sohaimi Ishak said both suspects, along with others involved in other cases, were transported to the magistrates’ court in Johor Bahru and used a route they normally took.
“Throughout this procedure, the police did not arrange for any party or photographers to take pictures (of the pair),” he said in a statement.
Sohaimi said an internal investigation into any breach of procedures was ongoing.
Yesterday, Muda criticised the police over the “unethical” treatment of the minor allegedly engaged in an indecent act with the man and called for the removal of videos of the couple being spread on the internet.
Its human rights bureau chief, Dobby Chew, called out the men in blue over the use of handcuffs on the 17-year-old girl, allegedly caught in a 23-second viral video that supposedly showed her and a 22-year-old man engaging in what seems to be a sexual act in a car.
He said the Child Act 2001 provided clear rules on the treatment of juvenile offenders, adding that it was “highly unethical and damaging” for the police to “parade” the duo.
The couple in Johor Bahru had been placed under remand for two days from yesterday. They were arrested at two separate locations around Pasir Gudang yesterday after the emergence of the viral video.
