PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin sees signs of a “youth wave” in favour of the opposition when state elections are held soon.

He said the massive attendance of young people at yesterday’s launch of PN Youth’s election machinery was a sign of the “youth wave” that would be manifested at the coming elections.

Muhyiddin said he was impressed by the positive reception shown by a massive motorcycle convoy of thousands.

It was a sign of a youth wave and people’s wave seeking to make political changes through the coming elections.

“I am confident that the solid support given by the youths all over the country will be translated into votes for PN,” he said in a Facebook post.

Elections to state legislative assemblies will be held in two months in Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

A total of nearly 10 million voters are on the electoral rolls in the six states. The figure includes many new young voters who are on the rolls because of automatic registration of voters, and the lowering of the voting age to 18.

PN scored unexpected success in the 2022 general election, winning a total of 74 parliamentary seats through its component members Bersatu and PAS.

The coalition’s success, dubbed the “Green Wave”, was credited to the influx of young voters when the voting age was lowered.
