In a statement, PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said Lau was the coalition’s Bayan Lepas candidate. He said the decision was made by the PN Presidential Council.
Earlier, Lau’s aide, Wendy Subramaniam, told FMT: “We are following the original PN list released earlier. Dominic will contest for Bayan Lepas.”
Last night, Penang PN announced that it will contest for all 40 seats in the Aug 12 state polls.
However, it only announced its candidates for 39 seats, with the candidate for the Bayan Lepas seat not revealed.
Lau’s name was also not announced, though he had already said he would be contesting in the elections.
Yesterday, it was reported that Bayan Lepas PAS would stage a protest against Lau should he contest the Malay-majority seat.
The seat had been contested by PAS since the 12th general election, and voters were demanding for a Malay candidate, according to Kosmo.
