Suspect in KLIA shooting nabbed in Kota Bharu

A manhunt had been launched for Hafizul Harawi since the incident on Sunday morning.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain previously said controls were tightened at the country’s borders to prevent the suspect leaving Malaysia.

The suspect in the shooting at KLIA Terminal 1 yesterday morning has been arrested.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain told FMT that Hafizul Harawi, 38, was nabbed in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, at about 3pm today.

“There will be a media conference by the criminal investigation department director (Shuhaily Zain) or the Kelantan police chief (Zaki Harun) regarding this later,” he said.

In the incident, which occurred at about 1.30am, the suspect fired two shots at his wife at the airport’s arrival hall but missed.

One of the shots hit her bodyguard, who is being treated in hospital.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the incident stemmed from a personal issue and was unrelated to terrorist activities or groups.
