PETALING JAYA:
Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has urged the police to thoroughly investigate an incident where one of his police escorts allegedly assaulted a disabled e-hailing driver.

In a post on X, Tunku Ismail also urged all parties to allow the authorities to complete their probe into the case.

“I do not condone any illegal action or intimidation. I hope the authorities will take action in accordance with the law and give the victim justice.

“I am also aware that there is a movement to drag the royal institution using this incident, but to link the actions of an external security personnel with myself and the entire royal institution is uncalled for,” he said.

Tunku Ismail said he was only informed of the incident on May 29, the day after it occurred.

After being informed of the matter, he said, he had instructed his team of police escorts to cooperate with the investigation.

On Wednesday, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said the police were investigating a police escort to a VIP after a disabled man was allegedly assaulted at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the investigation was being held under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary hurt, and that the victim himself was unsure why he was assaulted.

Several hours later, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said the victim had filed a second report stating that the matter had been settled.

Rusdi said the driver attributed the incident to a “misunderstanding” and did not wish to pursue the matter.
